So Cold...

It got very cold over the weekend. Our heater wasn't working downstairs and it was about 50 degrees in Michael's room. We put a floor heater in the kitchen to keep the dogs warm and Charlie started a fire in the living room to heat the rest of the downstairs area. It didn't reach Michael's room, though. Michael decided to cuddle with the dogs. He accidentally fell asleep. Aren't they cute?

Who's Who

November of last year, Tabitha received an invitation to the Who's Who Among American High School Students-Sports Edition. We don't know who nominated her, but can only guess this is for cheerleading since that's the only sport she participates in anymore. Yesterday she received an invitation to the Who's Who Among American High School Students, the regular academic edition. We still don't know who is doing the nominating but, this is so exciting! They will send Tabitha a Scholarship Application from Who's Who. She will be a part of the College Referral Service and Who's Who will send a special announcement to any college, university, or prospective employer informing them of her award status. Of course she chose the University of Texas at Austin. Her class ranking right now is 77 out of 1037 students. Let's hope she keeps up the good work!

Grocery Store Trip

Well, I ran out of time to go to the grocery store on Sunday, so I went today. It's just amazing the things that happen. I did the usual shopping, got in line... thinking to myself as usual how the grocery stores have made it so inconvenient for the shoppers to check out. I remember when we got to the cashier and the cashier, not me, would take all the groceries out of the basket. This, of course, would give me time to go through all my coupons. But now, we get to put all the groceries in the basket, and take them out for the cashier. Wasn't that a great idea they came up with? Just a pet peeve of mine... it really irks me! Anyway, I got to the line, put all my groceries on the little round thingy and proceeded to go through my coupon envelope. The cashier scanned everything... we actually had a bagger... the bagger put everything in bags and loaded it into the shopping cart. Then it happened. I've never even heard of this before. The computer froze up. My cashier of the day happened to be a manager. So, he did the best he could with trying to get it to work again, but nothing. He had to come around to my side of the check-out line to reboot the computer. I asked if he would have to scan all the groceries again.. "No, this should do it, but it takes a little time." Okay... now I have finally finished going through all of my coupons and have pulled out the ones I can use. Now what? "Does your family like Blue Bell?", he asked. "My son, does." "What flavor?" "Strawberry." "I'll be right back." He went and got a container of strawberry Blue Bell and put it in a bag. I already bought one... where am I going to put 2 containers of ice cream? "Sorry for the inconvenience." he said. That was nice... hey, let me catch up on the latest gossip on my soaps while I'm standing here not doing anything. Well... I can't believe it. Courtney is going to deliver little baby John and she's going to die. But not before Jax tells her he switched the paternity test and the baby really belongs to Nikolas. Unfortunately, she dies before she can tell Nikolas and Jax takes the baby. What? Oh, okay... we're moving to another register. He couldn't get the other register/computer to work. He has to unload all of the groceries from the bags onto the round thingy so they can come around to the register. Now he can scan them all again. Didn't scan that Valentine's Day card. Didn't scan those pizzas (Charlie is going through a Totino's pizza phase). He saw the container of strawberry Blue Bell I had previously purchased. "You can have them both, for the inconvenience." "Thanks!" So, I finally got all my groceries scanned, all my coupons scanned, and I got to use the $16.00 coupon from the paper. After leaving all that stuff off, my groceries didn't add up to over $160.00 anymore, but he let me have it anyway. "For your inconvenience." You know, I've been shopping at this grocery store for awhile, and I've never liked it. This one trip made up for it. Yes, I was inconvenienced, I spent 2 hours in a store I don't like, I brought home melting ice cream and thawing pizzas, but I was rewarded for being inconvenienced. I really don't think it was the store, though. I think it was the personal integrity of the manager. Why else would I get rewarded for being inconvenienced? That's a thing of the past... like cashiers unloading your groceries for you.

17th Wedding Anniversary

Charlie planned it all and all I had to do was pack for the weekend and be ready to go by 4:00 Friday afternoon.

He took me to a Bed & Breakfast in Granbury. When we arrived, the innkeeper greeted us in the parking lot. We were shown to our room which had a vase of a dozen red roses in it. Charlie informed me that those were for me. The room was really nice and the view was wonderful! We were on the second floor overlooking the lake. We had a small balcony, but it was too cold to enjoy it.

We were supposed to have a reservation for dinner at the restaurant downtown, but they were booked and we couldn't get in. So the innkeeper sent us to the local country club for dinner. My crab cakes were terrific! Charlie didn't like his steak... it had too much fat.

Next, we went downtown to the little theater and saw the live show Big Fun. It was a pretty good show, but one actor in particular made it really fun! He was hilarious. I don't know why, but he reminded me of Sandra Fowler at Elaine's office. Weird, huh.

After the show, when we got back to our room, there was a bottle of champagne chilling, 2 champagne glasses, and 4 chocolate covered strawberries. Charlie did a great job of putting the whole trip together.

The next morning we met a couple at breakfast from Grand Prairie of all places! They were there to get married. We told them they couldn't have picked a better day since it was also our 17th wedding anniversary. After breakfast we checked out and went downtown to the shops and antique stores. It was freezing cold outside, but we managed to make it to most of them.

It was a very memorable anniversary!

Monday 02/06/06 Continued

Michael doesn't have any broken bones. He's just sore from the fall. The doctor wrote a note for him to stay out of P.E. for a week, but other than that, he's fine.

Monday, February 6, 2006

Michael woke up this morning stating he was in terrible pain (again). I don't know what to do with him sometimes. Well, he confessed to me and his dad that yesterday, while he was playing with Danielle and Hudson, they were climbing over the gate. The electronic gate. The gate that is 6 feet above nothing but concrete. He fell. Hudson laughed. That made it embarrasing. He didn't want to tell us because he knew he wasn't supposed to be climbing over the gate. So this morning, we have a bruised hip, sore neck, bruised and scratched elbow, and pain in the wrists. Do I make him go to school and suffer, or do I take him to the doctor? The last time he fell and said his wrist hurt I didn't believe him. I ended up taking him to the doctor the next day and he had buckled the bone in his wrist. So, I guess I shouldn't take any chances this time. We'll find out at 2:00.
